I've been having fun watching the SS23 Ready To Wear runways.
There is plenty to feast your eyes on - but I picked 4 of my favourite themes and had a look at how we could take them off the runway and on to our needles.
Theme 1: Rich colours
Off the runway
Victoria Beckham
|
Gucci |
Off White |
Chole |
On to your needles
My Favourite Things |
Knitting for Olive |
Purl Soho | Sandnes Garn |
As well as more traditional spring palates like pretty pinks and soft florals this season we saw truly bold colours walking the runway, with the hues fully saturated. Patterns like My Favourite Things Knitwears' sweater no 15 and Purl Soho's Drwastring Camisole both look beautiful in colour. As to colours Knitting for Olives Heavy Merino in Pomegranate has all the depth of colour you could ask for, and Peer Gynt in Oker has an almost ugly quality that makes it really stand out.
Theme 2: Amazing Jackets
Off the runway
Christian Dior | Balenciaga | Fabiana Filippi | Christian Dior |
On to your needles
PetiteKnit | Clara Eggers | My Favourite Things | Jacinta Bowie |
You may notice that jackets pop up as key pieces under every theme, they come dripping in sequins, in bold pops of colour and in oversized silhouettes. Some of my favourite patterns include the Zipper Jacket by PetiteKnit, Clara Eggers Fluffy Ass Brioche Cardigan and MFTK's Jacket No 1. Have fun finding your favourite jacket pattern and don't be afraid to make it you own with colour or embroidery.
Theme 3: Bring the Bling
Off the runway
Valentino | Gucci | Balenciaga | Dolce and Gabanna |
On to your needles
Laerke Bagger is the queen of this trend (she may infact be the queen of everything). If you're not following her on Instagram already you should be, she creates incredible designs and loves to use beads, textured yarns and scrap yarn to give all her work dimension and over-the -top cool factor! If adding 100's of beads to your work is a bit overwhelming, using fun yarns like Borstet Alpakka and brightly coloured silk mohair is an easier way to add a touch of luxe texture to your projects.
Trend 4: Just for fun!
Off the runway
Loewe | Off White | Gucci | Loewe |
On to your needles
Laerke Bagger | PopKnit | Sandnes Garn | Sandnes Garn |
We definitely saw lots of designers embrace fun and playful-ness this season, but nobody did it better than Loewe, I could have filled this whole section with their designs alone. It's also an easy trend easy to do at home. You can take any pattern and give it a twist by incorporating colour or adding your own texture. Adding a bit of fun after the fact can also be achieved through embroidery, google a few videos to get started then let your imagination run wild.
